Why UV400 Protection Matters for Your Eyes

Ultraviolet radiation is invisible, but its effects on your eyes are very real. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can contribute to cataracts, macular degeneration, and photokeratitis. That is why choosing sunglasses with proper UV protection is one of the simplest things you can do for your long-term eye health.

What does UV400 mean?

UV400 lenses block all light wavelengths up to 400 nanometres. This includes both UVA (315 to 400nm) and UVB (280 to 315nm) rays, which are the two types of ultraviolet radiation that reach the earth's surface and can damage your eyes.

Not all sunglasses offer this level of protection. Some budget sunglasses darken your vision without actually filtering UV rays, which can be worse than wearing no sunglasses at all. Dark lenses cause your pupils to dilate, letting in more UV light if the lenses lack proper filtering.

All Frame Studio lenses are UV400

Every pair of Frame Studio sunglasses comes with UV400-rated polycarbonate lenses. They block 100% of UVA and UVB rays while remaining lightweight and impact-resistant.

Combined with our premium acetate frames, you get comfortable all-day protection whether you are at the beach, driving, or walking through the city.

How to check your sunglasses

Look for a UV400 or "100% UV protection" label. If your sunglasses do not mention UV protection, they may only reduce brightness without protecting your eyes. When in doubt, an optician can test your lenses with a UV meter.

Your eyes deserve proper protection. Every pair in our collection delivers it.
